Dr. Jennifer Leedy has been a part of adult education at Big Sandy Community & Technical College (BSCTC) for nearly 21 years and this year alone helped 15 Kentuckians earn their GED’s.

She and her team: Stephanie Bunyard, Joey Conn and Phillip Gullett have helped students from many walks of life to earn their GED’s and even transition their way into college.

Paintsville Rotary Club along with member Tony Skeens, Johnson County Commonwealth Attorney began working with Dr. Leedy in 2009 to pay for the fees for students to take the GED test to help them along their way.  Together they founded “The Bootstraps Scholarship” specifically for students who pulled themselves up by the bootstraps and made it!

“My students are why I do what I do and why our team does what they do, their success is what we are most proud of”. said Dr. Jennifer Leedy.

Antonia Farias was one of the students that earned Paintsville Rotary Bootstraps Scholarship assisted and was recently honored at a Rotary meeting.  Farias had been out of school for 18 years before going back and it took her 4 months to get her GED.

“I’m now studying business at Big Sandy Community and Technical College, thank you to the Rotary Club for helping me obtain my GED.”
