BIG SANDY COMMUNITY AND TECHNICAL COLLEGE LECTURER NAMED RONA JAFFE AWARD WINNER
Big Sandy Community and Technical College English lecturer Shawna Rodenberg was recently named a recipient of the Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers Award for 2017.
Rodenberg received her nursing degree from New Hampshire Technical Institute, her B.A. from the University of Southern Indiana, and her M.F.A. from Bennington College before beginning her career at Big Sandy in the August of 2015.
“I feel overwhelmed and incredibly grateful to have this degree of support for my writing. I believe that written language can be a kind of key that unlocks all sorts of doors of possibility, and that is why I am so committed to teaching my students how to write well. I want them to be able to open as many doors as they can.” said Shawna Rodenberg.
The award which is given annually to six women writers who demonstrate excellence and promise in the early stages of their careers was founded by Rona Jaffe in 1995. It is the only national literary awards program of its kind dedicated to supporting women writers exclusively. Since the program began, the Foundation has awarded over $2 million to emergent women writers.
