Finalists Named in Presidential Search for Big Sandy Community and Technical College

Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) President Jay K. Box announced today the finalists for the position of president/CEO of Big Sandy Community College and Technical College (BSCTC).  

The finalists are:

  • Clifton R. Elliott, vice president for Academic and Student Affairs, Williamsburg Technical College, Kingstree, South Carolina
  • Brian Van Horn, associate provost and dean of Regional Academic Outreach, Murray State University
  • Sherry Zylka, provost, Wayne County Community College District, Detroit


The candidates are scheduled for on-campus visits and interviews July 18 and 19 at the BSCTC Prestonsburg Campus. During those visits, candidates will meet with BSCTC faculty, staff, students, the board of directors and local leaders. The public also will have an opportunity to meet the candidates at the following forums: 


Tuesday, July 18

7:30 – 8:30 a.m. – Community forum
10 – 11 a.m. – student/faculty/staff forum


Dr. Sherry Zylka

8:45 – 9:45 a.m. – Community forum
11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. – student/faculty/staff forum


Wednesday, July 19

Dr. Brian Van Horn

7:30 – 8:30 a.m. – Community forum
8:45-9:45 – student/faculty/staff forum


Community forums and student/faculty/staff forums will be held at the Pike Building Auditorium - Room 102.
