Computer-Aided Drafting and Design Graduate Excelling at Lexington Firm
Camille Robinson earned a bachelor of arts degree in teaching, but her passion is in computer-aided drafting and design.
She worked seven years for an engineering firm in eastern Kentucky. Like most companies, her job was reliant upon the coal industry. As jobs became few and far between, she found herself laid off not once, not twice, but three times.
Enter Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC).
Robinson enrolled in 2012 and graduated with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design in 2014.
“The faculty, class size and access to industry-leading tools and machines made all the difference in the world,” said Johnson, who is originally from Prestonsburg. “Jerry Howard taught most of my classes and he went above and beyond every day to make sure we had a wonderful learning experience.”
Robinson just celebrated her one-year anniversary at Prestress Services in Lexington, Ky. where she works as a draftsman.
“I design concrete beams using computer-aided drafting and design tools and machinery that are used on bridges across several states,” she said. “As a drafter, I am in contact with contractors that awarded bridge jobs and our production team that uses drawings to produce the final product. I take great pride in keeping all lines of communication open to deliver the customer with a quality product on time.”
Jerry Howard, associate professor of Computer-Aided Drafting and Design at BSCTC, said student success is at the core of his teaching philosophy.
“It is about learning and doing that in an environment that is deeply rooted in what business and industry need,” said Howard. “Our students are trained on the very best of equipment, and I would put my graduates up against anybody.”
