Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) held a retirement celebration for Susan Chafin on Tuesday, May 16 on the Prestonsburg campus of the college.
Chafin, the director of advising, has worked at the college for 19 years.
“It’s been an honor to work alongside you,” said Chafin. “I will cherish all of the memories we have made.”
Dr. Nancy B. Johnson, retired provost at BSCTC, called Chafin a true advocate for students.
“Susan knew our students’ name, their needs, their families and their goals,” she said. “Susan always filtered through issues and found solutions.”
Chafin earned an associate degree from the former Prestonsburg Community College in 1979 and a bachelor’s degree in business education from the University of Kentucky in 1981. She later earned her MBA from Morehead State University in 1989.
“I’m going to miss Susan’s presence in the office because she has been a great friend to all of us in student services,” said Jimmy Wright, dean of student services. “I’m proud to call her my co-worker and my friend.”
Dr. Alan Scheibmeir, interim president of BSCTC, wished Chafin well in front a large crowd of co-workers.
“You’ve been a true asset to this college, and we appreciate your service,” he said. “We all wish you well in this new and exciting chapter in your life.”
