Students from several Floyd County schools participated in a Next Steps camp on Friday, March 17 on the Mayo campus of Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC).
This marks the second year for the camp, which seeks to prepare students for careers in the areas of healthcare, advanced manufacturing and information technology.
Students spent part of the day with Jerry Howard, associate professor of Computer-Aided Drafting and Design at BSCTC.
“It’s so rewarding to have students come in and learn like this,” said Howard, who had students create a homemade catapult. “This is what it all about… connecting with students and showing our passion for our craft.”
The Next Steps Camp was sponsored by Project CASE (Creating Access to Successful Employment), the Kentucky Career Center, the Eastern Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program, Inc., BSCTC and the EPIC (Enhancing Programs for IT Certification) program.
