Camp Schedule

Big Sandy Community and Technical Colleges East Kentucky Science Center and Varia Planetarium will host the following summer camps:



  • June 1st 9am-12pm
  • Cost: Member $10/Non-Member $15

Come discover the wonderful world of color as we dive into rainbow-filled fun in this colorific summer camp! Learn songs about the primary colors, reflection and refraction! Make rainbow bubble art and even make your own take-home kaleidoscope! 

Riverworks - Make a Splash!

  • June 13th, 9am-12pm
  • Cost: Member $10/Non-Member $15

Come dive into our exciting RiverWorks camp full of aquatic surprises!! Make a splash in our live stream table as we learn about erosion. Learn about how things float and why they sink then paddle your way to fun as we gear up for adventure in a real canoe! 

Students Getting Ready to Watch a FilmK - 2nd Grades


  • June 6th, 9am-3pm

What is a simple machine? In this camp you'll learn they're more fun than you thought! With our innovative lessons, games and activities, you'll discover the fun of launching, wheeling, rolling, & spinning your way to a new world of fun with simple machines!

  • Cost: Member $25/Non-Member $30

What is the big deal with the sun? Why can't we live without it and how does it affect life here on earth? Enjoy interactive games and take-home activities in this solar camp as we learn why the sun moves across the sky, how its rays can affect our bodies and how it powers the water cycle! Make a treat in a solar oven using the sun's rays and even look at the sun through special glasses! 

3rd & 4th Grades

Elements of the Universe

  • June 8th, 9am-3pm
  • Cost: Member $25/Non-Member $30

What is the universe made of? What kind of elements from the universe can we find on earth and how do we use them in our everyday lives? Join us for a fun-filled journey of discovery as we manipulate geological specimens and view elements with diffraction grating lenses!

4th - 8th Grades


  • June 20-21, 9am-3pm
  • Cost: Member $40/Non-Member $50

Always a student favorite, this two-day camp is back by popular demand! What happens to the human body in space? Could we survive on another planet? What would you wear on a space mission? Come soar into space exploration as you build & launch your own rocket!

5th - 9th Grades

Engineering Technology

  • June 28th - 29th, 9am-3pm
  • Cost: Member $30/Non-Member $40

Come explore the exciting world of engineering through littleBits™ technology where everyone can be an inventor!
This two-day camp is geared toward sparking an interest in STEM subjects for young girls. Explore the fundamentals of engineering, circuitry and electronics. Discover and invent new ways to use technology with little Bits. (Kentucky Girls STEM Collaborative Mini-Grant Program)

Epic Robotics & Programming

  • July 13th, 9am-3pm
  • Cost: Member $25/Non-Member $30

Come discover programming with these EPIC robots. Tackle obstacle courses, create graphics and face challenges in today's ever evolving world of technology. (THIS CAMP IS FUNDED IN PART BY
