Workforce SolutionsBig Sandy Community and Technical College provides many types of training to the community. Our traditional programs offer degrees, diplomas, and certificates. We also have programs where companies or community groups may request specialized training.

Adult Education

Adult EducationIt's never too late for a new beginning. Get Your GED, Improve Your Job Skills, Prepare for Testing, and more. BSCTC hosts Adult Education centers in Johnson Co. and Floyd Co. Our GED classes are completely free. We provide the books, class materials, and experienced instructors to help you earn your high school equivalence at your own pace.

Gender and Sexual Identity 101 Workshop

Feb. 22, 6pm, Pikeville Campus. People who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) are a vital part of Appalachian history and communities. This session is open to everyone regardless of gender or sexual identity. Participants will receive an overview of the language describing gender identities and sexualities as a way of understanding LGBTQIA+ people, communities, and cultures. Rather than leaving with any one solution to challenges, participants will be encouraged to work collaboratively with each other to offer suggestions and support. Bring your curiosity, questions, and an open mind.

William Wells Brown: How I got My Name

William Wells Brown is considered the first published African American novelist and playwright. He was born to an enslaved mother in either 1814 or 1815 in the Mt. Sterling area of Montgomery County or in Lexington. Brown experienced the dissolution and sale of his own family and witnessed the harsh and brutal separation of other families within the institution of slavery. After years of failed attempts to escape slavery for which he was jailed and beaten, in 1834, Brown finally escaped to a life of freedom.
