The Wireless Network

Does BSCTC have it? YES!

  • The following buildings/areas on the Prestonsburg Campus have wireless access:
    1. Johnson
    2. Magoffin
    3. Pike
    4. Student Center
    5. Post Secondary
    6. Center of campus (all picnic tables and benches in center campus)

  • Planned between now and Dec:
    1. Pikeville Campus 1st Floor
    2. Mayo Campus Building F

How to Connect to the Wireless Network

1.) You must first make sure your device (laptop, hand-held device, etc) detects and connects to the wireless network. To do this: right click the icon for the Wireless Signal in your system tray (area where the computer clock is). See Illustration 1. A menu will pop-up choose View Available Wireless Networks.

2.) After clicking, View Available Wireless Networks, you should see the following window (see Illustration 2). This will list the name of our Wireless Network, called BSCTC-Wireless, click Connect in the bottom right hand corner.

3.) After clicking Connect, your device will attempt to acquire a network address (see Illustration 3) and then, if successful, it will connect to the wireless network (see Illustration 4).

4.) Once connected, open your Internet Explorer or Firefox browser. You will get the following prompt (see Illustration 5). You will have to click Yes in order to proceed. Please note that this will occur every time you connect to the Wireless Network.

5.) You will be prompted to login in order to access the wireless network. On this screen use your KCTCS username and password. It's the same information that you use to access your E-mail and PeopleSoft accounts.

6.) A successful login will get you onto the wireless network. The login could take anywhere from 10 seconds to 1 minute to check your credentials - depending on network usage. Once you are successfully logged in, a window will pop-up (see Illustration 7). Simply minimize this window or close it, but DO NOT click Log Out. Clicking Log Out will end your wireless session.

7.) From this point on you can surf the Internet as usual.
