Narrative:

Big Sandy Community and Technical College's (BSCTC) curriculum is directly related to and appropriate to its mission and goals [1]. The college offers programs and courses of study in general, developmental, technical, and career education; student development; community and public service; and lifelong learning. Through these programs and courses, the College awards continuing education units, diplomas, certificates, and associate degrees [2].

The College's schedule of classes provides a listing of all academic courses available to students [3]. These classes utilize diverse methods of instructional delivery; such as traditional face-to-face; online, web-enhanced, hybrid, and KET. The BSCTC eCatalog describes the courses and the requirements for degrees, diplomas, and certificates [4].

Associates in Arts and Associate in Sciences are offered for those students who wish to transfer [5]. Associates in Applied Sciences, diplomas, and certificates are offered by the College for those students preparing for immediate entry into the workforce are detailed in the BSCTC Academic Program List [6]. Customized business and industry training courses are also an integral part of the College and are designed for those members of the community who are seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills. These offerings are in direct line with the College's stated mission.

The College also has full offerings of developmental courses. With the support of the Johnson County Adult Education Program on the Mayo Campus (Paintsville) and the Floyd County Adult Education Program on the Prestonsburg Campus, students and community members who are academically under-prepared can utilize the resources provided by these agencies as well as those provided by the College through the Center for Enrichment Resources [7] [8].

Faculty are responsible for establishing new curriculum, revising existing curriculum, designing new courses, revising existing courses, deleting courses, and ensuring that course and/or program offerings fulfill the college's mission to provide learning experiences for those preparing for immediate entry into the workforce upon graduation, for those transferring to a baccalaureate institution, and for community members seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills as detailed in CS 3.4.1. This is in accordance with KCTCS Board of Regents Policies, 4.11 Policy on Program Approval and 4.12 Policy on Collaborative Program Development and BSCTC Faculty By-laws [9] [10] [11].
