Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) employs qualified personnel to ensure the quality and effectiveness of its
student affairs program. The organizational structure of the Student Affairs unit is reflected in the BSCTC Organizational
Chart [1].
For each employee in the area of Student Affairs, current documentation is on file in the Human Resources department
reflecting each employee's job title and academic qualifications. A description of each professional staff member of the
Student Affairs unit that includes job titles, academic qualifications, and pertinent work experience is shown in the Student
Affairs Staff Table [2].
Student Affairs engages in continuous improvement by using the College's planning and evaluation process described in
Core Requirement 2.5 [3].
In Fall 2006, the Interim Dean of Student Affairs appointed a committee consisting of representatives from each area of
Student Affairs whose charge is to blend services and address
issues [4]
BSCTC utilizes various surveys to evaluate student services. These surveys include
registration [5]
and exit surveys [6].
Registration surveys include Fall 05, Spring 06, Fall 06, and Spring 07. Exit surveys include Summer 05, Fall 05, and
Spring 06. The Spring 06 registration surveys reflected 92% overall satisfaction with the registration process but the Spring
2007 results reflected 87% overall satisfaction with the registration process. Student Affairs staff evaluates staffing
and
area needs annually using the Annual Planning and Evaluation Process described in
Comprehensive Standard 3.3.1 [7].
Staff professional development opportunities are made available thru many avenues including staff retreats and workshops held
at BSCTC and within the Kentucky Community and Technical College
(KCTCS) system [8]
Professional Development
opportunities are also available through the KCTCS New
Horizons Conference [9a]
[9b].
Additionally, employees hold memberships in the following professional organizations: Kentucky Association of Collegiate
Registrars and Admissions Officers
(KACRAO) [10]
and Kentucky Association of Secondary and College Admission Counselors
(KASCAC) [11].
In addition to the above activities, employees of BSCTC are offered the opportunity to enroll in two classes
(six credit hours) of course work per semester at no cost to pursue any educational advancement as stated in the Employee
tuition waiver
guidelines [12a] [12b].
