COMPREHENSIVE STANDARD

3.5.2 The institution awards degrees only to those students who have earned at least 25 percent of the credit hours required for the degree through instruction offered by that institution. (See the Commission's policy, "The Transfer or Transcripting of Academic Credit.")

Narrative:

Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) awards degrees for the Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and Associate in Applied Science. Regardless of the time the student has attended the college, he/she must have completed at least 25 percent of the approved curriculum credits at BSCTC [1] [2] [3] [4]. Every student must apply for graduation and must have a degree audit performed by the student affairs staff to ensure that the 25 percent rule is met [5] [6].

As a member of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS), BSCTC participates in the Memorandum of Agreement for Online Distance Learning Consortia Programs among the Colleges of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System [7]. This Agreement identifies the specific responsibilities of the participating institutions and defines the "Home College" for the purposes of online distance learning courses as "the college to which the student is admitted and from which the student will receive a certificate, diploma, or degree upon successful completion of a program of study." As noted in item # 3 of the College Responsibilities, "Online courses in an online program will be used to meet residency requirements by online Home Colleges authorized to issue the certificate, diploma, or degree."
