Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) adheres to the guidelines established by Kentucky Community and Technical
College System (KCTCS) Administrative Policy 4.4, Policy Statement on the Accounting and Measurement of Workforce and
Continuing Education [1],
4.4.1.2 Measurement and Criteria [2],
and 4.4.1.2.1 Academic Credit [3]
in which the options for awarding credit are defined.
According to these policies, a noncredit course may be converted to Business and Technical Training (BIT) credits if there is
an existing course using the same competencies and number of credit and contact hours listed in the
Catalog [3].
A modified version of an existing course using selected topics, competencies and fractionalized credit
(0.2 to 6 semester credit hours) can be
adopted [3].
With the implementation of the new local curriculum approval process, new BIT courses will be expected to follow the same
process as regular academic credit classes. See Comprehensive Standard 3.4.1.
The Training Center for Community and
Economic Development maintains the files for these courses. A typical file consists of a course syllabus and outline, a
class roster, and a summary of the class evaluation of instruction. An example of BIT course materials can be found in
the supporting documentation [4].
Files containing BIT faculty credentials are housed in the Human Resources office.
BSCTC adheres to SACS guidelines in awarding individual continuing education units (CEU) credit. All continuing education
programs awarding individual CEUs meet the criteria established by KCTCS Administrative Policy 4.4.1.2.2 Continuing
Education Units (CEUs) [5]
and 4.4.1.2.3 Institutional Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
[6].
BSCTC awards credit for a variety of external experiences
