3.4.6 The institution employs sound and acceptable practices for determining the amount and level of credit awarded for courses, regardless of format or mode of delivery.

Narrative:

Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) employs sound and acceptable practices for determining the amount and level of credit awarded for courses, regardless of the format or mode of delivery. Courses delivered through BSCTC may be face-to-face, online, ITV, or hybrid. Online courses are delivered through Blackboard Course Delivery System and ITV labs are available on Prestonsburg, Pikeville, and Mayo. Hager Hill students may use the Mayo ITV lab if needed. Hybrid courses utilizes both face-to-face and online delivery [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] .

As discussed in Compliance Standard 3.4.1, the President, Provost, Academic Associate Deans and faculty are involved in the approval and evaluation of all coursework. Faculty determine the amount and level of credit awarded for courses as established in KCTCS Senate Rules, Section V - Rules Relating to Attending a KCTCS College, 2.1 Credit/Contact Hours [3] (Course, Course Components). Curriculum procedures and course numbering are established in KCTCS Senate Rules Section III, Rules Relating to Course Numbering and Curriculum Procedures [2].

BSCTC awards credit for courses based on rules established by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) Board of Regents Policies 4.11 Policy on Program Approval [6] and Policies 4.12 Policy on Collaborative Program Development [7] and KCTCS Senate Council [2].
