In keeping with its stated mission and purpose, Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) embraces generally accepted
educational practices and policies of higher education that are appropriate to its programs and students and accurately
represent its programs and services (and are in keeping with overall Kentucky Community and Technical College System
(KCTCS) policies and procedures)
[1]
[2].
An avenue for faculty involvement in the development and review of academic policies exists through the Rules Committee
established under the BSCTC Bylaws of Faculty and Faculty Council. The Rules Committee is charged with the following
duties:
- responsible for codifying the Rules of the Faculty of the College;
-
make recommendations to the Faculty, upon request or upon its own initiative, regarding modification of the Rules
of the Faculty, the Rules of the Senate of the College, or the policies and procedures of the College's Board
of Directors;
- continually evaluate the Rules of the Faculty of the College to meet new conditions;
- assist in the process of developing the College faculty policies, procedures, and governance documents; and
- performs other responsibilities as delegated to it by the Faculty or
Faculty Council [3].
BSCTC publishes academic policies in both print and electronic media; these policies are distributed to students, faculty and
other interested parties. Local policies regarding issues such as grading, withdrawals, graduation requirements, are included
in the BSCTC Student Handbook and the BSCTC
eCatalog [4]
[5].
System academic policies are included in the KCTCS Code of Student Conduct and the
KCTCS Catalog [6]
[7].
Academic policies and procedures are also sited in course syllabi, which can be accessed through the college website
[8].
The BSCTC Public Relations Office ensures that accurate information about the college is distributed as
needed [9].
This office also makes sure that appropriately required statements are included on published material (whether in print or
on-line). All publications are updated regularly to ensure that the principles of good educational practice are followed.
Print materials are updated on a calendar cycle; however, changes to electronic documents are updated as needed.
