COMPREHENSIVE STANDARD

3.2.2 The legal authority and operating control of the Institution are clearly defined for the following areas within the Institution's governance structure:

Narrative:

The creation of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) is clearly defined in the Kentucky Postsecondary Improvement Act of 1997 (House Bill 1) [1] and the mission of KCTCS is described in Kentucky Revised Statute (KRS) 164.580 [2]; moreover, these documents authorize the KCTCS Board of Regents and the Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) Board of Directors with the legal authority and operating control of the Institution. The mission of BSCTC [3] is compatible with and supportive of the mission of KCTCS. The mission of BSCTC was approved most recently in August 2003 by the KCTCS Board of Regents [4], following revision by the college faculty, the BSCTC Planning Council, and the BSCTC Board of Directors [5].

A more recent review of the mission statement occurred in December 2006 by college employees and the BSCTC Board of Directors [6], and is pending approval by the KCTCS BOR in March 2007.
