3.14 Representation of status with the Commission

3.14.1 A member or candidate institution represents its accredited status accurately and publishes the name, address, and telephone number of the Commission in accordance with Commission requirements and federal policy.

Narrative:

In December of 2006, the membership of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools - Commission on Colleges approved revisions to the Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement. One such revision was a change in the prescribed wording regarding representation of status with the Commission.

In all cases prior to December 2006, Big Sandy Community & Technical College (BSCTC) used the following accreditation statement with respect to its accreditation status with the Commission:

Big Sandy Community and Technical College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097; telephone number 404-679-4501) to award the associate degree.

Following the December 2006 change, the College updated its electronic publications and will ensure all future printed publications that refer to the accreditation status of the College use the following statement:

Big Sandy Community and Technical College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate degree. Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097 or call 404-679-4500 for questions about the accreditation of Big Sandy Community and Technical College.

Note: The Commission is to be contacted only if there is evidence that appears to support an institution's significant non-compliance with a requirement or standard
