Narrative:

Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) awards Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and Associate in Applied Science degrees. The highest degree awarded is the associate degree. The College does not offer bachelor degrees, graduate, or professional degrees. As outlined in the KCTCS Board of Regents Policy 4.1.2-B, Associate in Arts and Associate i n Science degree programs must consist of a minimum of 60 semester credit hours and Associate in Applied Science degrees consist of 60 to 76 semester credit hours [1]. The policy on transfer and program length is established by KRS 164.020 [2] and KCTCS Board of Regents Policies 1.3.2.3 [3], 4.11 [4], and 4.12 [5]. The published policies are consistent with BSCTC mission [6] and the guidelines established by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education for transfer of credits. [7].

Requirements for associate degrees are outlined in the 2006-07 KCTCS catalog [8] as well as the BSCTC eCatalog [9]. All associate degrees are designed to meet state, regional, and community needs and are reviewed through an internal program review process as described in Core Requirement 2.5. Written justification and rationale for program equivalency is provided in the College catalog [9] and KCTCS Catalog [8]. Guidelines for the transfer of coursework are published by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education [7].
