WORLD OF CINEMA: Big Sandy Community and Technical College will host a presentation on A World of Cinema by Michelle Fields at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 26, in the Art Gallery located in the Magoffin Learning Resource Center on the Prestonsburg campus.

The event is a part of the 1914 Centenary, which is a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War I.

BIG SANDY IDOL TICKETS ON SALE: The Big Sandy Idol regional competition will be held March 7-8 at the Mountain Arts Center. Sponsored by Gearheart Communications, the event will feature more than 30 of the region’s most talented high school students, competing for a full-paid vocal scholarship to Big Sandy Community and Technical College, a full CD recording courtesy of TubeFi Studios of Pikeville, a spot on the coveted Big Sandy Singers and various other prizes.

JOIN US IN EASTERN EUROPE: Have you ever wanted to travel abroad, but feared doing it alone? Have you ever dreamed of the perfect trip? Big Sandy Community and Technical College Professor Matt Smith will be leading a group of students and community members on a trip to Eastern Europe in May. The tour includes stops in Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic. The group will explore the effects of World War II in Krakow and Auschwitz. The trip will end with a two-day stay in Vienna, Austria. The trip cost is $3,400 for students and $3,600 for adults over 30.
