Scholarship Information

Student Studyin in Common AreaBig Sandy Community and Technical College is proud to offer a wide array of scholarships to support the educational needs of the students in the Big Sandy Region. While the criteria varies greatly it is important to note that you may apply for all scholarships with a single application unless otherwise specified.

How to apply?

Step 1:

Complete the following: 

  • Admissions File including all transcripts, ACT scores, etc. 
  • Financial Aid File and all required documentation

Step 2:

Obtain an application by printing from the Big Sandy Community and Technical College website or picking one up in the financial aid office or in the counseling department on any campus.

Step 3:

Complete the application and return to Leslie M. Bays located on the Prestonsburg Campus in the Counseling Department Suite 100D no later than April 1st. This can be sent via campus mail by a college employee on any campus. You do not need to make a special trip to hand deliver. No faxes please!

Important Notes: 

  • It is vital that you read the directions carefully and provide all required information. The essay should include proper grammar and punctuation as well as the reason the Scholarship Committee should consider you for a scholarship. Be convincing and be specific! 
  • Applications not completed correctly will not be considered. 
  • Late applications will not be accepted.

Applications are good only for one academic year. Students must apply each year before April 1st to be considered for scholarships beginning with the new academic year. Scholarships are typically awarded for the fall and spring semesters.

All communication will take place via email so it is critical that you check your email regularly and delete old messages in a timely manner.

What can you do to increase your chances of receiving a scholarship at BSCTC

  • Apply early!!! 
  • Make sure your application is complete, neat and easy to read. 
  • Include all test scores such as ACT; GPA; high school ranking; etc. 
  • Your admissions file and financial aid file must be complete and accurate 
  • Pay attention to your email. All correspondence will be sent via email as well as external scholarship opportunities.

How will I receive my scholarships (if awarded)?

Your scholarship will be posted to your PeopleSoft account. If you do not owe the College any fees, a refund will be generated.
