The Prestonsburg Campus opened in 1964 as part of the Community College System in Kentucky. Over the next 39 years it grew into a modern campus with five buildings dedicated to KCTCS classes. In late 2003, two more buildings were added which BSCTC shares with Morehead State University and the East Kentucky Science Center. One of four campuses in Big Sandy Community and Technical College, this campus provides easy access to college classes for students in the Big Sandy area.
