Steve Russo, director of Big Sandy Community and Technical College’s East Kentucky Science Center and Planetarium, has been named as the Margaret Noble Address Speaker for the annual meeting of the Middle Atlantic Planetarium Society (MAPS) to be held in July at the James E. Richmond Science Center, in Waldorf, Maryland.

Ratliff, 39, of Kimper, graduated from Big Sandy Community and Technical College in May with an Associate in Science degree. In March, he earned acceptance to the Appalachian College of Pharmacy in Grundy, Va.

The college, in conjunction with the Alltech Outreach Education Program and the University of Kentucky, launched its second-ever Appalachian BOLD (Bioeconomy, Outreach, Leadership and Development) camp for seventh and eighth graders on Monday, June 13 on its Prestonsburg campus.

“The kids were super excited and engaged in all the activities as we experimented with the world of sound,” said Susan Scott, instructional specialist for the EKSC. “They even got to experience a laser show in the Planetarium and that was a wonderful treat.”
