Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) will be offering a Children's Music and Drama Summer Workshop from July 9-24 in the Gearheart Auditorium on its Prestonsburg campus.
Open to children ages 8 through 13, the workshop will run daily from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Laura Ford Hall, associate professor of communications and children’s music conductor, will serve as the workshop instructor.
The cost of the camp is $95 that can be paid in two installments of $42.50 (one installment per week).
This year, the children’s program will focus on vocal music and will have elements of acting/theatre as well. The area of music will consists of lessons teaching the basics: notes, rhythm, and techniques of singing including matching pitch, singing scales, and harmony singing. In the area of theater, children will learn stage directions, blocking, staging, and techniques of acting, costuming, and how lighting and sound play a role in a production. The class will conclude with the production including both music and drama elements – in which every child participating will have a role. This year’s production will include group and solo singing, and theatrical monologues, duos and skits. So, children who love to sing and act (or enjoy just one or the other) are highly encouraged to register.
